Gorilla is RAW

With the WWE celebrating the 20th anniversary of Monday Night RAW tonight, we thought it was a good time to remember one of the more unique moments in the history of wrestling’s flagship program. Although, the Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla may not be too happy we pulled this one out of the archives.
It was on March 17, 1998, during one of the WWE’s many visits to US Airways Center [watch for our list of top wrestling moments in Phoenix history, coming soon!] that the NBA’s most popular mascot first stepped into the squared circle to the delight of the hometown crowd.
The cheers from his adoring fans quickly turned to shrieks of fear when the lights dimmed, flames exploded and horror-show music filled the then-named America West Arena, signaling the entrance of the “Big Red Monster,” Kane.
What happened next? We’ll let you watch the embedded video above and find out for yourself. Needless to say, Kane wasn’t as kind to the Suns’ furry ambassador as he is to his furry tag-team partner, Daniel Bryan, today.
Don’t forget the WWE returns to Phoenix with the first-ever Royal Rubmle Fan Fest on Jan. 26, followed by the 26th annual Rumble itself on Sunday, Jan. 27. Perhaps, the Gorilla will enter the 30-man, over-the-top-rope battle royal himself and extract a little revenge!
