”I don’t think one decides to become a singer, It is decided for you by the reactions of the people around you.” - Andrea Bocelli

Andrea Bocelli is, to say the least, an iconic figure in music with a myriad of breathtaking career achievements to his name.

The Italian tenor, coming to US Airways Center in December, is the most successful classical solo artist ever and one of the best-selling artists in music history, period, with more than 80 million albums sold worldwide. He is also credited with enabling the core classical repertoire to cross over and find a home atop the international pop charts, creating a new genre of music along the way.

Perhaps more amazingly, he has performed for four U.S. presidents, two popes, and the British royal family, as well as at ceremonies for the Olympic Games and the World Cup.

Andrea Bocelli has famously been dubbed "the fourth tenor." A follower of Luciano Pavarotti and Zucchero Fornaciari, the blind, Tuscany-born singer emerged as one of the most stirring voices in modern opera during the late 20th century. His participation in Pavarotti's 1992 hit "Miserere" and Fornaciari's 1993 world tour helped propel him to international stardom.

Yet, Bocelli had more diverse interests other than just opera. Rather, he fared just as well in the pop category through duets with such singers as Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman, and Eros Ramazzotti. Al Jarreau, who sang with Bocelli during Night of the Proms in November 1995, fittingly praised the vocalist when he said, "I have had the honor to sing with the most beautiful voice in the world."

It is with said "pop ballad" spirit that Bocelli recently released a highly-anticipated new album entitled Passione. Filled with romance and beauty, Passione is a lush collection of beautiful love songs featuring duets with global pop stars Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado. The album also features an extraordinary duet with the late Edith Piaf in which the Tuscan tenor sings with one of the greatest French singers of all time for a new version of "La Vie en Rose."

The album reunites Bocelli with 16-time Grammy Award-winning producer David Foster, who produced Bocelli's 2006 release Amore, which sold more than 4.2 million copies.

Bocelli is set to perform new music on Good Morning America (1/29), The View (1/30), The Katie Couric Show (1/31) and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (2/1).

Undoubtedly, Passione will be another critically and commercially acclaimed piece in the prestigious Bocelli collection.
